Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we recommend sealing the edges of any cut plywood. Cut edges are particularly vulnerable to moisture, which can lead to swelling or delamination over time. In many cases, a suitable wax or oil is enough to provide basic protection. However, in high-moisture environments—such as bathrooms, kitchens, or outdoor areas—a clear lacquer is a better choice, offering a more durable, water-resistant barrier.
Please note: Plymasters does not offer a warranty against water damage, so proper sealing and care are essential to protect your plywood.
BS1088 is the British Standard specification for marine plywood that applies to plywood produced with untreated tropical hardwood veneers that have set level of resistance to fungal attack. It is considered superior to regular marine grade plywood.

BS1088 Marine Grade Plywood

- 100% tropical hardwood (same species)
- WBP glue
- Must be stamped with BS1088
We recommend using 3 or 4mm plywood for laser cutting such as birch, poplar, gaboon, pine or meranti.
Please refer to the CD Structural Pine Ply Brochure on our resources page.
We recommend using marine grade plywood such as Gaboon, Keruing , Meranti or an LOSP treated plywood. Prior to installation we recommend sealing the edges and all faces of the plywood with a marine or exterior grade lacquer. We also recommend getting the finish approved by your Architect or Designer prior to install.
