Titirangi Walnut Kitchen

Spacebar Design has created an exceptional kitchen for their client in Titirangi, drawing deep inspiration from the surrounding native trees and abundant natural light.

Our American Walnut Veneer captures warm, earthy tones that immediately invite visitors into the heart of the home. The strategic lighting breaks up the complexity of the walnut wood grain, deepening its rich character while highlighting the sleek matte black cabinetry. Beyond aesthetics, American Walnut Veneer offers the durability and stability required for a busy family environment when paired with a European Birch plywood core. These panels are pre-finished in a UV-cured lacquer, removing the need for additional trips to the paint shop. Because this American Walnut panel arrives ready for installation, it saves significant time and labor hours while still providing a premium, high-end finish.

The six-meter-wide wall span and soaring ceilings provided Spacebar Design with the perfect canvas to go big and bold. Large-scale paneling and cabinetry were utilised to create a sense of depth and intentional layering throughout the space. To maintain the purity of the design, minimal hardware is visible, ensuring that no unnecessary elements detract from the natural beauty of the materials.

A thick stone benchtop, seamlessly connected to the kitchen island, creates a clear separation between the various functional zones of the workspace while contributing to the overall layered effect of the cabinetry. This project’s excellence was officially recognised when it was named a finalist in the Best Design Awards for 2022.

This transformative project for a multi-generational home in Titirangi masterfully integrates a bold, open-plan kitchen with a serene master ensuite, catering to both vibrant communal living and personal retreat. Inspired by the abundance of natural light and the lush native bush surrounding the new build, the design thoughtfully draws earthy tones and natural textures indoors.

The primary goal was to create a kitchen that serves as the central focal point of the living area, facilitating shared moments while ensuring the home’s aesthetic reflects the client’s contemporary style and interest in modern design.

This strategic combination of natural and composite materials creates a sophisticated play of contrast, with matte black accents enhancing the warmth and complexity of the walnut grain. Despite serving very different functions, this same design language and material palette extend into the compact master ensuite. Here, a walnut and matte black vanity introduces a sense of organic warmth against large stone tiles, creating a quiet and welcoming sanctuary. The seamless connection between these spaces was achieved through harmonious material choices that embody a perfect balance between the lively and the tranquil, making this project a true testament to thoughtful, connected design.
