Wilpro Custom Auto and Engineering, in Wanganui, uses Plymasters Euro Gripdeck to add the finishing touch to one of New Zealand’s most iconic vehicles: The mighty ute.
Founded in 2001 by Willy Pelzer, who began in the industry in the 80s, Wilpro leaves its mark on just about every new single cab, extra cab or double cab you see on our country’s roads, farms, and building sites.
In the early days, ordinary ply was standard for decks. But Willy quickly became disenchanted. “When people are paying $60-$80,000 for a vehicle, they don’t expect rubbishy ply on it.
“All the brands insist on Euro Gripdeck now. They won’t have anything else.”
Willy says another advantage to the Euro Gripdeck ply, in addition to the looks and durability, is that it comes in much bigger sizes. “You can get a deck out of one piece so it lasts longer.”
“It’ll take everything Kiwis can throw at it.”
